KICKING /
PASSING
++++++++++
The
best thing a developing soccer player can do is develop dominant ball skills
needed to master the 1v1 (one verses one) game.
This
means getting thousands of touches on the ball to develop deep comfort and
control with all parts of the body and feet.
This also means mastering specific skills to keep the ball away from an
opponent, move the ball around an opponent, and take the ball away from an
opponent. As a player grows up,
dominant ball skills provide the best foundation for developing dominant
passing skills.
Younger
players can work through each move and skip those which are too difficult. Older players can work through each move and
spend time mastering those which are weak or missing from their game.
Moves #160 -
#167 – Kicking / Passing
Watch
goal scoring highlights from any of the premiere soccer leagues and there is
one kick you will see on a regular basis – the volley.
Chest
Trap + Volley = Goal
Thigh
Trap + Volley = Goal
Goalkeeper
Punch Save + Bouncing Ball + Volley = Goal
The
ability to effectively strike a bouncing ball is a huge goal scoring
weapon. Volleys generate significantly more
power and velocity than striking a ball off the ground.
Beyond
scoring goals, volleys are useful in many other situations as well.
If
the ball is dangerously bouncing around in front of your own goal – unleash a volley
and clear the ball out. Or use a volley
to make a long pass down field to a teammate making a run.
Bottom
line – volleys are awesome.
