The best thing a developing soccer player can do is develop dominant ball skills needed to master the 1v1 (one verses one) game.

This means getting thousands of touches on the ball to develop deep comfort and control with all parts of the body and feet.  This also means mastering specific skills to keep the ball away from an opponent, move the ball around an opponent, and take the ball away from an opponent.  As a player grows up, dominant ball skills provide the best foundation for developing dominant passing skills.

Younger players can work through each move and skip those which are too difficult.  Older players can work through each move and spend time mastering those which are weak or missing from their game.

Moves #133 - #138 – Kicking / Passing / Dribbling
DRIBBLING + 1st Touch + KICKING/PASSING = KICKING/PASSING/SCORING DOMINANCE

The Straight Kick is a must for the advanced soccer player.  It is extremely effective and is commonly taught and utilized by the greatest players all over the world.

Unfortunately, the Straight Kick is often overlooked among American soccer players.  Many elite players, even at the college and professional level, have not practiced this kick enough to be comfortable using it during a game.

Imagine that you are between two defenders – one defender immediately to your left and a second defender immediately to your right.  With a Straight Kick you can continue your straight travel, the ball stays in front of you, and you maintain the ability to strike

If you were to attempt, however, to do an Angle Kick in this situation, you would have to move your body into one defender and push the ball into the second defender to execute the kick.

The ability to strike the ball without adjusting your body or the location of the ball provides a significant advantage in certain situations.  The Straight Kick is utilized consistently by great strikers to score goals
