1v1 Soccer videos are not designed to teach proper technique.

Instead, take advantage of the resources linked at the end of this post.  These resources are the best of what is out there.  These resources contain professional trainers and skilled players correctly demonstrating (often in slow-motion) the techniques you want to learn.

The purpose of 1v1 Soccer is to show parents how to modify effective soccer instructional resources for home use.  By applying these resources in the myriad of different ways demonstrated on this site, you can help your child win the 1v1 soccer battle.

A primary goal for an advanced soccer player should be developing the ability to take a ball out of the air.  The process of gaining control of an air ball is called a Trap.

After taking a ball out of the air using any of a variety of body parts, the ball typically takes a bounce in front of you or beside you.  Kicking a ball out of the air (bouncing or otherwise) is a Volley.

A Volley involves striking through the center of the ball, keeping your shoulders over the ball, and a follow through that stays parallel with the ground.

A Laces Medium Distance Trap + Volley involves using your laces to gain control of a ball that is high in the air coming from a medium distance away and then striking the ball out of the air or off the bounce.

An Inside Foot Medium Distance Trap + Volley involves using your inside foot to gain control of a ball that is high in the air coming from a medium distance away and then striking the ball out of the air or off the bounce.

An Outside Foot Medium Distance Trap + Volley involves using your outside foot to gain control of a ball that is high in the air coming from a medium distance away and then striking the ball out of the air or off the bounce.

The technique needed to effectively execute an Inside/Outside Foot, or Laces Trap is difficult to learn.

Trapping an air ball that is high in the air and coming from a long distance away (medium/long distance trap) is especially difficult.

The only training resource I am aware of which properly teaches these Traps is the Soccer University DVD’s (bottom of page).

The ability to effectively control and strike air balls is a huge advantage.  These techniques are worth investing the time to master.

Effectively dealing with a ball in the air has two components.  First, you want to gain control of the ball.  Second, you want to bring it to the ground.

The process of gaining control of an air ball is called a Trap.  The process of bringing a bouncing ball to the ground is called a Squish

A Laces Medium Distance Trap + Squish involves using your laces to gain control of a ball that is high in the air coming from a medium distance away and then squishing it to the ground.

An Inside Foot Medium Distance Trap + Squish involves using your inside foot to gain control of a ball that is high in the air coming from a medium distance away and then squishing it to the ground.

An Outside Foot Medium Distance Trap + Squish involves using your outside foot to gain control of a ball that is high in the air coming from a medium distance away and then squishing it to the ground.

The technique needed to effectively execute an Inside/Outside Foot, or Laces Trap is difficult to learn.

Trapping an air ball that is high in the air and coming from a long distance away (medium/long distance trap) is especially difficult.

In addition, the technique needed to effectively execute an Inside/Outside Foot, Sole, Shin, or Body Squish is difficult to learn.  Most coaches, trainers, academies do not teach these techniques and those that do often teach them incorrectly.

The only training resource I am aware of which properly teaches how to Trap & Squish a soccer ball is the Soccer University DVD’s (bottom of page).

There are many components to a properly kicking a soccer ball.  If any of these components are executed incorrectly the entire kick breaks down.  Some of these components include:

·         Soccer Hop
·         Load
·         Down Swing
·         Placement Of Plant Foot

·         Shape Of Striking Foot
·         Ball Contacting Point
·         Eyes On Ball
·         Body Positioning
·         Shoulder Positioning
·         Impact Point
·         Follow Through

There is a soccer training DVD called Blast The Ball which is included with the Soccer University DVD training series.  Blast The Ball covers nearly every element of a correct soccer kick.  I strongly recommend this purchasing and reviewing this DVD to develop and master the various components of properly kicking a soccer ball.

A Volley involves learning how to effectively kick a ball out of the air.  This kick demands striking through the center of the ball, keeping your shoulders over the ball, and a follow through that stays parallel with the ground.

A Laces Volley Kick/Pass – Stationary Ball involves learning how to properly kick a bouncing ball that is not moving using the laces and moving directly towards the ball (rather than at an angle).  A stationary ball allows you to focus exclusively on learning proper technique rather than worry about additional elements connected to a moving ball.

The Laces Volley Kick/Pass – Forward Approaching Ball technique involves using the laces to properly kick a bouncing ball moving directly towards you.  This kick demands striking through the center of the ball, keeping your shoulders over the ball, and a follow through that stays parallel with the ground.

An Inside Foot Volley Kick/Pass – Stationary Ball involves learning how to properly kick a bouncing ball that is not moving using the inside foot and moving directly towards the ball (rather than at an angle).  A stationary ball allows you to focus exclusively on learning proper technique rather than worry about additional elements connected to a moving ball.

The Inside Foot Volley Kick/Pass – Forward Approaching Ball technique involves using the inside foot to properly kick a bouncing ball moving directly towards you.  This kick demands striking through the center of the ball, keeping your shoulders over the ball, and a follow through that stays parallel with the ground.

The Outside Foot Volley Kick/Pass – Forward Approaching Ball technique involves using the outside foot to properly kick a bouncing ball moving directly towards you.  This kick demands striking through the center of the ball, keeping your shoulders over the ball, and a follow through that stays parallel with the ground.

An Angle Volley Kick/Pass – Stationary Ball involves learning how to properly kick a bouncing ball that is not moving using the bone above the big toe and moving towards the ball at an angle.  A stationary ball allows you to focus exclusively on learning proper technique rather than worry about additional elements connected to a moving ball.

The Angle Volley Kick/Pass – Forward Approaching Ball technique involves rotating the hips and using the bone above the big toe to properly kick a bouncing ball moving towards you.  This kick demands striking through the center of the ball, keeping your shoulders over the ball, and a follow through that stays parallel with the ground.

Best U12 Youth Soccer Moves | #182-#191 – 1st Touch

TOP SOCCER MOVES – RANKED LISTS
U12 YOUTH SOCCER
MOVES #182-#192 – 1ST TOUCH

++++++++++

The best thing a developing soccer player can do is develop dominant ball skills needed to master the 1v1 (one verses one) game.

This means getting thousands of touches on the ball to develop deep comfort and control with all parts of the body and feet.  This also means mastering specific skills to keep the ball away from an opponent, move the ball around an opponent, and take the ball away from an opponent.  As a player grows up, dominant ball skills provide the best foundation for developing dominant passing skills.

Younger players can work through each move and skip those which are too difficult.  Older players can work through each move and spend time mastering those which are weak or missing from their game.

Moves #182 - #191 – 1st Touch
1ST TOUCH + Dribbling + Moves + Physicality + Ball Control = BALL DOMINANCE

The higher levels of soccer are all about speed of play.  The ability to move the ball as quickly as possible is what separates the best players from the rest

Continuous small touches give you a circle of space within which to make decisions.  This is an efficient way to deal with speed of play.  When you go to advanced levels – ODP, regional coaches – the #1 thing they are looking at is 1st touch.  Are you touching into pressure or into space? Are you getting your head up or rushing or forcing a pass?

The 1st Touch moves below are all about effectively receiving the ball with your back to pressure and efficiently turning to face pressure

Rather than receiving and freezing or receiving and turning into pressure, these touches enable you to stay mobile, move the ball into space, and get your head up to survey the field all at the same time

These moves are ideal for center midfielders who routinely receive passes with their back to their opponent’s goal.  These moves are also appropriate for forwards who receive passes in the opponent’s goal box with their back to goal.

When layered with dribbling and moves, a strong 1st Touch will take your ability to dominate the ball and win 1v1 battles to new level.

As one example, James Rodriguez scored the greatest goal of the 2014 World Cup off a trap + volley.

The trap + volley is a complicated skill, difficult to learn, and demands perfect technique.  In particular, trapping an air ball that is high in the air and coming from a long distance away (medium/long distance trap) is especially difficult.

Despite its complexity, youth players can learn this techniqueThis ability is a huge advantage in youth soccer and worth investing the time to learn.

Beyond scoring goals, volleys are useful in many other situations as well.

If the ball is dangerously bouncing around in front of your own goal – unleash a volley and clear the ball out.  Or use a volley to make a long pass down field to a teammate making a run.

Bottom line – volleys are awesome.

The purpose of 1v1 Soccer is to show parents how to modify effective soccer instructional resources for home use.  By applying these resources in the myriad of different ways demonstrated on this site, you can help your child win the 1v1 soccer battle.

A Laces (Straight) Kick/Pass involves kicking the ball with the laces.  It also involves moving directly towards the ball rather than approaching from an angle.

The Laces Ground Kick/Pass involves moving directly towards the ball (rather than at an angle) and using the laces to kick the ball along the ground in a specific direction.  This kick demands striking through the center/top of the ball, keeping your shoulders over the ball, and a follow through that stays parallel with the ground.

The Laces Ground Kick/Pass – Stationary Ball involves learning how to properly kick a ball that is not moving along the ground using the laces and moving directly towards the ball (rather than at an angle).  A stationary ball allows you to focus exclusively on learning proper technique rather than worry about additional elements connected to a moving ball.

The Laces Ground Kick/Pass – Forward Approaching Ball technique involves learning how to use the Laces to properly kick a ball that is moving directly towards you and keep it on the ground.  This is a fairly common situation in youth soccer.

The Laces Low Driving Air Kick/Pass involves moving directly towards the ball (rather than at an angle) and using the Laces to kick a low driving ball in air in a specific direction.  This kick demands striking through the center of the ball, opening up your shoulders a bit, and a normal follow through.

A Laces Low Driving Air Pass/Kick – Stationary Ball involves learning how to properly kick a ball that is not moving in the air with power using the Laces and moving directly towards the ball (rather than at an angle).  A stationary ball allows you to focus exclusively on learning proper technique rather than worry about additional elements connected to a moving ball.

The Laces Low Driving Air Kick/Pass – Forward Approaching Ball technique involves learning how to use the Laces to properly kick a ball that is moving directly towards you and drive it with power in the air.

Dribbling
Mastering dribbling is beneficial because it allows you to move the ball into the best location on the field to execute the kicks and passes listed above.

There are four foundational types of dribbling which must be mastered.  These types of dribbling include Speed Dribbling, Chop Dribbling, Controlled Dribbling, and Fast Dribbling
